Mt. Lake Retreat is located 12 miles south of Petersburg, West Virginia off County Road #9, South Mill Creek Road in Rough Run, WV. The entrance road borders the southern end of South Mill Lake (there are signs to the lake and park posted on South Mill Creek Road).

Check-in/Check-out is at the Wildernest Inn which is located 1 mile north of the entrance of Mt Lake Retreat on County Road #9/South Mill Creek Road, opposite the north end of South Mill Lake. For additional information, please contact our management team at:

From Washington DC:   Proceed on I-66 West to I-81 South to exit #296, Rt. 55 West towards Wardensville, WV. Pass through Wardensville and take “new Rt. 55” (Corridor H) towards Moorefield. From Moorefield, take Rt. 220 South towards Petersburg. After passing through Petersburg and crossing the railroad tracks, make the first left onto County Road #9/South Mill Creek Road. Follow South Mill Creek Road for approximately 12 miles to Wildernest Inn entrance on your left. The entrance to Mountain Lake Retreat is about 1 mile further on your right.

From Baltimore, MD:   Proceed on I-70 West to I-81 South to Rt. 37 West to Rt. 50 West. In Gore, make a left on to Rt. 259 towards Wardensville. Pass through Wardensville and take “new Rt. 55” (Corridor H) towards Moorefield. From Moorefield, take Rt. 220 South towards Petersburg. After passing through Petersburg and crossing the railroad tracks, make the first left onto County Road #9/South Mill Creek Road. From Pittsburgh, PA:   Proceed South on I-79 to Rt. 33 East in West Virginia towards Elkins & Seneca Rocks. Follow Rt. 33 to Seneca Rocks and turn left on to Rt. 55 North towards Petersburg, WV. Pass through Petersburg and take Rt. 220 South. After passing through Petersburg and crossing the railroad tracks, make the first left onto County Road #9/South Mill Creek Road. Follow South Mill Creek Road for approximately 12 miles to Wildernest Inn entrance on your left. The entrance to Mountain Lake Retreat is about 1 mile further on your right.

From Richmond, Charlotte & parts of Southern VA:   Proceed West on I-64 to I-81 North to Rt. 33 West at Harrisonburg, VA. Take Rt. 33 West to Franklin, WV. Pass through Franklin and take Rt. 220 North. At Upper Tract, WV turn right on to County Road #11. Turn left onto County Road #1 and proceed North, as you cross the county line and enter into Grant County, the entrance to Mt. Lake Retreat is on the left and approximately 1 mile further the entrance to the Wildernest Inn is on the right. Approximately 3.5 hours travel time

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The roads within Mountain Lake Retreat are “dirt and gravel” roads that are normally easily passable by two-wheel drive vehicles. In the wintertime, ice and snow may make driving more difficult and four-wheel drive vehicles may be more appropriate. Extended periods of rain may also cause some sections of roadway to become muddy.
